Albums, books, whatever you want to call them, it’s something you need. It’s beyond a want. It’s a need.
I have done some thinking about why I love photo albums so much and finally I’ve worked it out. Often when I would look through the photo albums I would ask questions about people in the photos, where the photo was taken etc. My favourite part wasn’t the photos (shock!), my favourite part was the stories that went along with the pictures. I would have heard these stories many times before and sometimes, just sometimes a new story would come about from sifting through the pages.
Often it’s not the photo itself, it’s the memory that we are attached to and love. The photo really is just the reminder of the memory.
1. EVERYBODY ELSE’S DOING IT…
It’s kind of like the cool new thing that no one talks about. Let’s face it, Grandma can barely see photos on your phone and if you let her loose with it suddenly she’s scrolling backwards through your camera roll. Eeeeek.
2. THE QUALITY
Professional albums are the business. The paper, the binding, the smell. It’s like none other I have ever experienced. Oh and the options! My oh my the options!!
3. THE FAMILY HEIRLOOM (soz, had to go there…)
At the time you can get caught up in all the wedding hype and things can be overlooked. Obviously as a photographer I am going to tell you not to overlook a wedding album. Picture this: Grandmas asks to see your wedding photos and all you can say is ‘Wait let me just bring up Facebook, I’ve got a few on there’. Most Grandma’s are tech savvy these days however generally they are pretty old school. Sharing your wedding photos via a device is crappy and ultimately a stinky experience. Now, Picture this: handing Grandma your custom designed wedding album. Imagine watching her flick through the pages with happiness. Seriously, imagine it.
4. TECHNOLOGY PUTS A BEE IN YOUR BONNET
Man I love .jpgs … said no one ever! Ok maybe that’s not entirely true buuuuuuuuut there is a truth bomb about to hit. If your wedding day is just digital files, did it really happen? Sure you’ll share your favourites on the socials, make a few gift prints and be done. Overtime a .jpg will be unreadable (think cassette’s or VHS’s) and to think in an instant your amazing memories are gone, gone, goooooooooone. Don’t be that guy, get the book.
5. YOUR IMAGES SHOULD GROW UP TO BE A WEDDING ALBUM
Images sitting on a USB stick in drawer somewhere is pretty ridiculous. Your wedding album should be designed and made by the person who was right there beside you all day. Your photographer.
